Preliminary Dressage League
1st April - 31st March
The Forces Equine Preliminary Dressage League helps riders progress from Introductory level, combining affiliated and unaffiliated results into a national leaderboard. It provides a clear pathway to gain experience, recognition, and championship qualification.

How this league works
Getting started is simple—just follow three easy steps:
1. Compete
Enter eligible Introductory-level dressage tests at recognised competitions or approved online events. Both affiliated and unaffiliated riders are welcome.
2. Submit Your Scores
Upload your results to Forces Equine so your performance can be included in the league leaderboard.
3. Earn Points & Progress
Points are awarded based on your percentage scores. Consistent performance moves you up the leaderboard and helps you qualify for the Forces Equine Championships.
**NOTE. For security purposes, we have included areas that your place of works falls into, for more on this, please see our FE Areas. Please ensure that you let us know what area you come under.
The Preliminary Dressage League is governed by clear, fair, and consistent rules to protect the integrity of the competition and ensure a positive experience for all participants.
Eligibility
- Open to all riders in the Forces Equine community
- Riders may compete on multiple horses; each horse-and-rider combination earns points separately
- Only scores from eligible Preliminary-level tests at recognised competitions or approved online events will count towards the league
Points and Rankings
Points are awarded based on percentage scores (see table above). Leaderboards are updated regularly to show current standings.
Submitting Results
- All scores must be submitted through the official Forces Equine system
- Only complete and verified results will be included
Conduct
- Riders and horses are expected to compete with sportsmanship, fairness, and respect
- Any disputes will be resolved by the Forces Equine committee, whose decision is final
Championship Qualification
- Qualification is based on cumulative points across the season
- Riders who meet the required standards will be invited to the Forces Equine Championships

Championship Qualification
Qualification for the Forces Equine Championships is based on consistent performance throughout the league season.
How to Qualify:
- Accumulate Points – earn points in eligible Preliminary-level tests
- Maintain Consistency – the best results across the season contribute to qualification
- Leaderboard Position – high-ranking horse-and-rider combinations at the end of the season qualify for the Championships
Key Notes:
- Results from both affiliated and unaffiliated competitions count toward qualification
- Each horse-and-rider combination qualifies independently
- Qualification is confirmed by the Forces Equine committee prior to the Championships
