South Yorkshire Police Saddle club win Team of the year at South Yorkshire Police's Sports awards 2024
SYP Saddle club won "Team of the year" at South Yorkshire Police's Sports awards 2024. Some amazing results in the last 12 months and the hard work and dedication of every single member showing through. PCSO Emma-Jo Thorpe also received an award for recognition of being selected to represent SYP at National level.
SYP saddle club was established in 2012 and since this time, it has grown in number and achievements. Over the past 12 months, SYP saddle club and its members have been hugely successful in competitions both in the UK and over seas.
In 2022 SYP saddle club were crowned champions in 3 equestrian disciplines, Show jumping, Dressage and combined training at the PSUK Blue light horse show, as well as individual places for several of its members.

60cm: First -PC Nicole Westwood 90cm: First -MOSOVO Emma Thorpe, second –retired DI Joanne Bates, third – PC Molly Batteson, fourth - DC Hannah Goodman, fifth - PC Rachel Redmond 100cm: First - MOSOVO Emma Thorpe Accumulator: First - MOSOVO Emma Thorpe Combined training: Prelim -First – PC Rachel Redmond, Second - DC Hannah Goodman Novice: Second - MOSOVO Emma Thorpe Individual Champions were crowned at the event in each discipline. PC Rachel Redmond took the show jumping championship by producing the fastest clear round of the whole competition, and PC Nicole Westwood took the combined training championship having the lowest finishing score of the day. |
2023-competition season began in May with SYP taking 2 teams of 3 riders to The Royal Windsor show, we
competed in the 'Services' show-jumping competition, up against 39 other teams who were competing from the
Army, Royal Navy, RAF, Armed Forces and other police forces from across the country and even worldwide. SYP
teams finished 7th and 11th and were the highest placed police team in the competition. MOSOVO Emma
Thorpe, PC Tracey Brown, PC Faye North and PC Rachael Redmond.
June saw 3 SYP saddle club members MOSOVO Emma Thorpe, PC Julie Bradshaw and PC Tracey Brown attend
the international police horse championship in Czech Republic.
SYP saddle club were there representing the UK in this completion, and were the only riders who were not on
their own horses.
The competition consisted of two sections; the first a derby style course of 21 jumps, solid natural and show
jumps, at a height of 1m. The second was a police nuisance test which was named 'Pakur', where we had to
demonstrate policing skills of shooting balloons, navigating bridges, using batons to strike objects while at speed
and over jumps, jumping barrels and fire hoops, all within a set time.
In the first section, the derby, Julie finished in second place and Emma finished 6th out of 25 competitors.
In the second section, Emma posted the quickest completion time of the competition and finished in second place and Julie finished in 17th place.
